Sunday, September 8 2019

The 2019 Sequoit XC team has wrapped up its 4th full week of practice and competition.  On August 28th, the team competed against Carmel, Westosha Central, Richmond-Burton, and Lakes.  While many veterans competed, it was exciting to see so many new faces running for the first time.  Juliana Gonzalez, Alexa Phillips, Katelyn Opal, Nolan Scofield, Matthew Watkinson, and Charles Haling ran their first XC race, along with freshman Jake Linck, Braxton Schieler, Ben Georgia, Ecin Stout, Leo Vazquez, and Noah Krusley.  On Saturday, September 7th, the Sequoits competed in the Horlick Rebel Invite held at UW-Parkside.  The team struggled with injuries and illness but saw some impressive performances.  Sophomore Sarah Benes highlighted the day with her 14th overall finish and a PR of 20:40.  Junior Ryan Johnson led the way for the boys as he was the first Sequoit to cross the finish line in 18:40, 56 seconds faster than 2018.  The Sequoits will host Grant and Round Lake at Fox River Park on Tuesday, September 10th before heading to Peoria on Saturday for the First to the Finish Invitational.
