Sunday, May 26 2019 - Lake County InviteThe boys track & field team are Lake County Champions for the first time since 1967. The Sequoits defeated runner up Barrington by 43 points (124-81). The team was lead by senior Zach Grindley who won the triple jump (42'9"), long jump (20'6"), and high jump (6'1"), while also anchoring the 4x100 to a 5th place finish., along with Dino Kaliakmanis, Robert Christiansen, and Ryan Shaputis. Sophomore Athan Kaliakmanis also brought home a county championship by winning the 110 high hurdles (15.68), while teammate TreShawn Watson places 3rd in 15.80. Junior Charlie Smith set a personal best in the 3200 meter running a 9:20, then coming back to place 4th in the 1600 and ran leg on the 5th place 4x400 relay team with Shaputis, D. Kaliakmanis, and Christiansen. Senior Matt Becker threw a lifetime best of 54'9" in the shot while Chase Becker placed 3rd in the discus with a 162'6.50". The 4x800 (Mike Volkmar, Kevin Tebbe, Ben Ticsay, and Sebastian Scofield) placed 6th and the 4x200 of Mathias Madigan, Gavin Calabrese, D. Kaliakmanis, and Khalil Anderson placed 7th. 400 runners Christiansen and Shaputis go 3-4, while D. Kaliakmanis places 6th in the 100 and 3rd in 300IH. Vaulters Tyler Oslage and Nico Garcia seal the deal by placing 2nd and 4th in the pole vault.
